The last month of the summer vacations is coming to an end, and the start of the new school year is already in sight. However, many events are starting in France as of September 2021, in order to better apprehend the fall. Zoom in on what’s in store for culture in the fall.
Deauville American Film Festival
After seeing Julia Ducournau‘s “Titanium” at the Cannes Film Festival, don’t miss the Deauville American Film Festival. A true ode to the golden age of cinema, and the greatness of Hollywood, the 47th edition of the Festival will include 70 films in 13 categories. The Festival describes itself as follows: “Deauville wants to be, through the eyes of filmmakers, a snapshot that, each year, tells a new story of America“.
Date: September 3 to September 12.
Paris-Athens, Birth of Modern Greece at the Louvre Museum
The exhibition “Paris-Athens, Birth of Modern Greece” at the Louvre goes against the grain of what is generally expected of an exhibition on Greece in the pyramid-shaped museum. As Greece celebrates the bi-centenary of its independence in 2021, this exhibition explores the ties between France and Greece in the 19th century. In addition, another anniversary will be celebrated this year at the Louvre: that of the arrival of the Venus de Milo in the museum’s collections in 1821.

Thierry Mugler, Couturissime at MAD
Located in the carousel of the Louvre, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris is set to host a colorful retrospective on the alien of Haute Couture, designer Thierry Mugler. Known for his extravagant and avant-garde creations, Mugler is one of the couturiers who have most surprised the world of luxury and fashion. From his tire suits to his Harley Davidson corsets, a look back at the designer‘s wildest pieces.

Botticelli at the Jacquemart André Museum
Rediscover the works of one of the most famous artists of the Renaissance, the Italian painter Botticelli. The artist behind the mythical painting of the “Birth of Venus” – who unfortunately will not be present – will be celebrated at the Jacquemart André Museum. Although his most famous painting remains in Florence, more than 40 works by the Italian painter will be exhibited, along with paintings by artists contemporary to Botticelli, which bear witness to their lives during the Renaissance and the transformations of the Medici over the city.
