From 7 to 13 April, the first phase of the Watch & Wonders watchmaking event took place in Geneva. It ends this Tuesday, and is replaced by the Shanghai edition. A second highlight of the international event, which this time will take place in person. Starting tomorrow, 19 exhibiting companies will take up residence in the West Bund Art Center until 18 April.
For five days, a programme rich in quality and entertainment is on offer: new products, previews, the presence of celebrities, conferences, a LAB space dedicated to innovation, and other demonstrations of watchmaking-related trades will punctuate this weekend. An unmissable event, reflecting the dynamic, inventive and creative luxury watchmaking industry;
In terms of schedule, Watches and Wonders Shanghai will only welcome professionals on the first two days, namely the press, retailers and a few selected guests. Afterwards, the show will open its doors to the public, whose access will be by invitation only.
“Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the heart of watchmaking excellence to discover the new “watch in hand” and watchmaking trends for 2021 through a five-day programme,” the official press release said.

A multitude of exhibiting companies
This year, the second edition of Watches and Wonders Shanghai welcomes 19 exhibiting companies, almost double the number of last year. Visitors and guests will have access to some of the pieces presented online at Watches and Wonders Geneva, but they will also be able to discover a preview of the latest novelties reserved for the Chinese market.
“Some companies will present unique and iconic pieces related to their heritage. The Cartier stand will be a must for visitors, where they will be able to discover a wide range of exceptional pieces.”
For its first participation in the event, Rolex will unveil its new collection. As for the other houses such as Vacheron Constantin, Piaget, A. Lange & Söhne, Ulysse Nardin, Roger Dubuis, Tudor, Baume & Mercier, they too have promising creations in store.
Among the stands of the West Bund Art Center, visitors will also have the opportunity to meet some influencers, and for some houses, celebrities (Chopard, Montblanc and Panerai).
A rich and educational cultural programme
The programme of Watches and Wonders Shanghai is based on various cultural and educational activities: “discovering the secrets of watchmakers by assembling a mechanical movement, admiring the skilled gesture of craftsmen by participating in workshops, experiencing the LAB in immersion, a space dedicated to innovation and new technologies with IWC Schaffhausen, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Montblanc; attending conferences and panel discussions to decipher the prospects and trends of the industry…”
The first floor of the West Bund Art Center will be a place of discovery, exchange and experience thanks to exhibitions on the digitalisation of the business, the impact of the secondary market in China, the 2021 trends, iconic watches and great watch complications.
All of these topics will be addressed by experts, influencers and KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders) during the panel discussions and conferences offered each day in the Auditorium, broadcast live on multiple livestreaming platforms and social networks ed-italia.com.
The venue will also house a space dedicated to the 5 independent craftsmen-creators: H. Moser & Cie, Armin Strom, Arnold & Son, Ferdinand Berthoud and Purnell, which will allow them to present their creations.
An event partner of the Tmall Super Brand Day
Watches and Wonders will also be a partner in one of Tmall’s most important campaigns, Tmall Super Brand Day, which will be held in April. This is an opportunity for the brand to strengthen and continue the digital experience in China.
“As part of this collaboration, each of the 11 participating Houses will offer unique experiences and exclusive offers on Tmall Luxury Pavilion. This exceptional initiative with 11 of the leading players in the Swiss watch industry is part of a rich digital programme for the luxury sector; an educational and intensive experience for all watch enthusiasts.”
On April 15, Austin Li, famous influencer, will present 11 exclusive pieces, pre-selected in advance, during a livestreaming of nearly 3 hours, which will bring together several million followers.
“At the end of this exceptional day, nearly 1,000 drones will take to the skies of Shanghai to choreograph Watches and Wonders during a sound and light show relayed on livestreaming platforms and social networks. The highlight of a fantastic week in honour of watchmaking excellence to be experienced from tomorrow in Shanghai and throughout the world with the hashtag #watchesandwonders2021.”
