This certificate, designed by the founders of the Tradeewatches platform, created in 2017 by Marc Ambrus and Guillaume Kuntz, is intended as a fingerprint of the watch. Forgery-proof, this state-of-the-art tool is proving to be an indisputable ally in the fight against parallel economies and counterfeiters.

From 99 euros, private individuals can obtain this certificate. Whether it is a family watch that has survived through the ages or a watch recently acquired at auction, all watches are eligible for this certification.

The second-hand watch market is worth 500 million euros annually. Popular with collectors, this major sector has more than ever an interest in showing its white paw. Consumers of these exceptional timepieces are looking for transparency and security.

This technology for storing and transmitting information with a decentralised infrastructure is the ideal digital response to the current challenges of second-hand watchmaking.

“In twenty years, the sector has literally exploded via new technologies, blogs, dematerialized platforms for online sales and auctions. These mediums are attracting a growing number of international collectors who are buying and selling in a very dynamic way. “confirms Geoffroy Ader, watchmaking expert at Artcurial.

Watch Certificate attests to the authenticity of the timepieces

“A referee had to be instituted in this giant playground. While talking to the buyers, we realized that there was something missing from the market. In other words, the need to increase security and offer collectors a trusted third party in the person of the Watch Certificate, the virtual passport for your collector’s watch or the equivalent of a vehicle registration document,” explains Marc Ambrus.

The certificate takes the form of a thin brushed steel card weighing 28 grams. Thanks to its QR code, the owner of the timepiece has access to the entire history of the piece. Through the forty control points, carried out in double analysis, the purchaser finds all the information necessary to protect his or her property and thereby reassure himself or herself.

Each watch is scrupulously examined first by a professional watchmaker and then by an independent expert in fine watchmaking. Everything is reviewed: reference number, brand, year, type of movement, serial number, average market price, condition and authenticity of the hands, bezel, bracelet, case, etc.

The certificate as a tool for watchmaking estimation

“The primary objective is thus to offer a maximum guarantee in terms of authenticity and provenance. At the same time, however, the Watch Certificate also serves as a digital wallet, enabling its holder to follow the evolution of the rating and value of his or her watch at any time. It is also transferable in the event of a sale,” stresses Marc Ambrus, who wants to expand the scope of his invention.

We register more than 40 million fake watches produced each year, the market is saturated by fraud. The data collected through the Watch Certificate cannot be falsified, unlike those established on a paper certificate. The digital document is forgery-proof.

Furthermore, the certificate serves as uncontested proof in the event of theft, it will also simplify the insurance procedure.
