Motivated by the resurgence of Covid-19 in Vietnam, Alma Resort will reopen its doors on January 15, boosted by progress in its infrastructure and teams during its closure.

Alma Resort Vietnam, the no less than 30-hectare resort is set to reopen on January 15, 2022, after an eight-month closure. According to Herbert Laubichler-Pichler, general manager of the resort, since May 16, 2021, his team has been busy developing a host of new capabilities and services, from launching a solar power project to a mobile app.

During the closure, Preferred Hotels member resort Alma appointed a sustainability manager to oversee three new sustainability committees focused on “green products, innovation and solutions” and “partnerships,” through such means as waste sorting, tree planting, paperless solutions and education. Central to the independent resort’s sustainability initiatives is the implementation of a solar energy project. The project, which includes the installation of 5,634 solar panels throughout the complex, is expected to cover nearly half of its energy needs and reduce its CO2 emissions by 72,670 tons over 25 years.

Human and material efforts

Also during the 8-month closure, Alma partnered with Typsy, an Australian-based company, to train its hotel staff. They were encouraged to explore their interests, learn skills to facilitate internal promotion and career development, and gain recognized qualifications through Typsy’s library of hospitality training videos by industry experts. Alma’s managers also attended eCornell’s four-month management accounting certification program, which provided them with tools to develop key performance indicators and reporting systems to drive manager and unit performance throughout the organization.

Upon reopening, the resort will offer a guided tour of the resort’s backstage areas, including a tour of the pastry shop, engineering workshop, laundry rooms and water treatment plant. Other changes include doubling the size and capacity of the kitchen at the beachfront Atlantis restaurant, which specializes in local seafood.

The team is also preparing the resort for Têt (Vietnamese New Year’s celebration), which will take place on February 1 and will be marked by a six-day program that includes traditional games and contests, an outdoor cinema on the beach, and kite flying contests, among others.

Finally, Alma has recently updated its mobile application to introduce a payment gateway, allowing customers to pay their bills directly through the application, as well as access real-time weather information through the installation of a live weather camera on Long Beach.
