From March 19 to September 2, 2018, the jewelry boutique Van Cleef & Arpels presents the “Floral Jewelry from day to evening” exhibition at 22 Place Vendôme in Paris. This exhibition will put the spotlight on the flora with a selection of forty pieces from Van Cleef & Arpels’ collection.

July 24, 2018 | Agenda

The “Joaillerie Florale jour et soir” exhibition showcases pieces dedicated to the flora, one of Van Cleef & Arpels‘ main sources of inspiration. Since its creation, Van Cleef & Arpels has always sought to magnify the beauty of nature through the most noble materials such as gold, platinum and precious stones. The exhibition brings together about forty pieces with patterns, shapes and chromatic harmonies typical of the 1930s to the 1960s. It reflects the omnipresence of flowers, vegetation and birds in the history of Van Cleef & Arpels, including daisies, clovers, ears of wheat, thistles, anemones, forget-me-nots and many others.

If the distinction between “daytime jewelry” and “evening jewelry” has disappeared during the 1970s smart hippy movement before reappearing in the 1980s, Van Cleef & Arpels still respects certain rules of elegance.

Its codes? Always prefer yellow gold for daytime pieces and  platinum for nocturnal creations.

The accessories and precious objects are also present in this exhibition, offering a fabulous ground for the representation of the wonders of the flora. The apple blossom appears as embroidered on a cigarette box of 1950. The engraving sketches a scenery with an almost Japanese style on the Eglantines cigarette case from 1948 in platinum, engraved yellow gold and diamonds.

The world of floral jewelry at Van Cleef & Arpels is one of the three rendezvous for jewelry enthusiasts. You can also discover the art of drawing at Chaumet and the pieces of art from Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan‘s collection at the School of Jewelry Arts.
