Trussardi appoints two new creative directors

The Italian fashion house Trussardi has just announced that Serhat Işık and Benjamin Alexander Huseby will become the label’s two new creative directors. The Italian brand, which had officially been operating without a creative director since Gaia Trussardi’s departure in 2018, will now be joined by this new duo in developing its future designs.

They will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of design, image and branding and will release their first collection for Trussardi in autumn 2022.

The duo have a long history in the fashion industry prior to their appointment to the helm of Trussardi. As the head of the Berlin-based label GmbH, they draw their inspiration from Berlin’s underground club culture and techno scene guardi qui. For their Fall 2021 men’s collection, the designers will play with gender boundaries, focusing on sensual, couture-inspired necklines, a range of shoes and vegan accessories; sustainability being a key element of their collections. For the Fall 2020 collection, they presented looks ranging from tight knit dresses to men’s off-shoulder ribbed tops, where most of the fabrics used were recycled, organic or biodegradable; fur not from animals or leather made from a corn-based material. In particular, the two designers added cultural mixes – Işık is a German of Turkish descent and Huseby is of Norwegian-Pakistani origin – and a sense of otherness to shape their own approach.

What’s more, the duo’s sources of inspiration seem endless, as they renew and dare with each new collection. Last July, for their spring 2021 men’s collection, the designers screened the film “A Season of Migration to the North”, a work by artist Lars Laumann, which tells the story of gay activist Eddie Esmail, who was arrested while participating in a fashion show in Sudan.

The appointment at Trussardi of Işık and Huseby is then a sign that the owners are taking the Italian brand in a new direction, never before taken, even though it had previously touted the designers’ commitment to inclusivity and their “socially engaged perspective”.

“Serhat and Benjamin bring a distinctive and powerful vision to Trussardi,” said Trussardi CEO, Sebastian Suhl. “The team and I are deeply excited to embark on this journey with them to bring a contemporary and responsible living experience to the market.”

In a statement, the design duo jointly declared that “Trussardi is loaded with pedigree and enormous untapped potential. We were attracted by the opportunity to rebuild a house.

See you by autumn 2022 to be able to admire Işık and Huseby’s collection at the helm of the Italian house!
