The world’s wealthiest people have broken all records in 2021. The bar has been raised: to join the Bloomberg ranking of the world’s richest people, you must have a fortune of at least $100 billion.
In 2021, $100 billion in wealth was the minimum to make it into the top 10 of the world’s wealthiest people. By comparison, in 2019, only the world’s largest fortune, that of billionaire and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, reached a fortune of $100 billion.
The year 2021 has benefited the biggest billionaires on the planet. Today in the rankings, not one but ten billionaires have now reached a wealth exceeding $100 billion. In 2021, the wealthiest people have added a combined $402 billion.
In this 2021 edition, Space X CEO and Tesla Managing Director Elon Musk takes the top spot in this ranking and can boast of being the world’s largest fortune. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires ranking, Elon Musk’s wealth increased by 121 billion dollars between the end of 2020 and the end of 2021. His fortune is now $277 billion compared to $156 billion last year. It should be noted that Elon Musk’s wealth has seen an exceptional jump since at the end of 2019, his fortune stood at 16 billion dollars.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos takes second place with an estimated fortune of $195 billion. Compared to last year, his fortune has only increased by five billion dollars. After stepping down as CEO of Amazon on 5 July, Jeff Bezos wants to devote himself to new projects such as the conquest of space and ecology.
In third place, we find the unavoidable CEO of the world’s leading luxury group LVMH, Bernard Arnault. Bernard Arnault is slowly approaching Jeff Bezos’ fortune, with an estimated $176 billion and an increase of $61 billion over last year. It should be remembered that at the beginning of 2021, LVMH had finalised the process of acquiring an iconic jewellery house, Tiffany & Co.
The ranking is then completed by Bill Gates with 139 billion dollars (up 7 billion), Larry Page in 5th position (130 billion dollars, up 47 billion), followed by Mark Zuckerberg with a fortune of 128 billion dollars (+ 24 billion). Sergey Brin ($125 billion), Steve Ballmer ($122 billion), Larry Ellison ($109 billion) and Warren Buffett (also $109 billion) are at the bottom of the list.
