The third edition of the Sustainable Leather Forum, organized by the CNC, will be held at the Palais Brongniart in Paris on September 13, 2021.
The Conseil National du Cuir (CNC) has announced that the Sustainable Forum will return in September 2021 for its third edition. The event will be held at the Palais Brongniart in Paris on September 13.
The CNC also revealed the program of speakers, under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and with the presence of Olivia Gregoire, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Social and Responsible Economy.
Organized by the CNC, the Sustainable Leather Forum aims to open a dialogue and develop best practices for the French leather industry, particularly in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on the social, environmental and economic levels.
The event will begin at 8:45 am with a panel on the vegan movement and respect for animal welfare, analyzing the philosophical aspect and origins of the movement. The session will also address the impact of veganism on the leather industry, but also on consumption and public opinion.
This session will be followed by interventions about deforestation and the carbon footprint of the industry. The different speakers will try to analyze the life cycle of leather and define its parameters in order to know if leather is responsible for deforestation.
The third session will focus on responsible leather production and sourcing in the sports and leisure markets, including how brands and importers can implement more responsible sourcing in the industry.
Then, the event will look at plant-based and synthetic alternatives to leather, which is increasingly intriguing consumers. The opportunity to propose a comparison of their technical performance against that of real leather.
Finally, the fifth and last session will examine transparency and access to consumer information, and how positive communication influences greater transparency in the leather, footwear and leather goods sectors.
The event will close at 18:00. The world leader in luxury goods, LVMH, has already confirmed its presence at the Sustainable Leather Forum.
