The flagship of Land Rover’s fifth generation of premium vehicles, the all-new Land Rover Range Rover 2022 marks a turning point not only for the manufacturer, but for the entire SUV category. A modern vehicle, which does not forget its identity acquired over the last fifty years.
The Range Rover 2022, the latest addition to the Land Rover family of cars, is both distinctive and deeply familiar. Its overall shape follows the same lines that have shaped Land Rover’s identity for the past fifty years. But while this design remains traditional, it is also thoroughly modern. With this new model, Range Rover is redefining its way of being. It is more premium, more technologically advanced and more innovative yet familiar in its design than ever before.
The Range Rover 2022 is designed to carry the torch of luxury motoring, packing lavish interiors and top-notch technology. So, while its overall shape remains largely common with previous models, it’s under the bonnet, in the guts of the vehicle itself, that the many design updates made by the brand are found.
The Range Rover 2022 already has a new powertrain featuring a 523bhp twin-turbo V8 that is capable of pushing this SUV from 0-60mph in just 4.4 seconds. A mild hybrid configuration is also planned for 2023, with 434 horsepower and a 62-mile all-electric range. By 2024, an all-electric Range Rover range will appear.
The chassis has also been redesigned, and is available in a number of versions to allow for different variations of the vehicle. Range Rovers with four-, five- and seven-seat configurations will be possible, while the seven-seat/three-row option makes its debut in the Range Rover range. The latter will only be available for long wheelbase models.
Chassis Control technology has been introduced, which, along with other mechanical and technological elements, will give greater control over the driving experience.
As expected, the Range Rover 2022 is packed with off-road prowess. An electronic air suspension system will automatically adjust suspension settings to suit changing road conditions. All-wheel steering is standard on all models, offering improved handling at low speeds and greater stability at highway speeds. Finally, the rear axle will swivel up to seven degrees in tandem or in opposition to the steering of the front wheels.
Above all, however, the Range Rover 2022 is characterised by the technology introduced and the new features added. The interior of the vehicle benefits from a calm and quiet atmosphere, made possible by the ability of the speakers to suppress unwanted ambient noise. The doors will have power assistance with a number of options, such as an anti-pinch system or opening via infotainment controls.
Amazon’s Alexa technology will be integrated into the vehicle, as will a 13.1-inch touchscreen designed to appear to ‘float’ in the cabin. A 13.7-inch dashboard will show all the information needed for a good drive.
The Range Rover 2022 will be available in a number of versions, including the SV version, which is available for customers who wish to personalise their SUV, and will therefore offer a plethora of modifiable elements. Special materials, such as ceramic trim elements, or ‘mosaic inlay’ will be available to SV customers.
The base Range Rover models are called SE: SE models with the I6 mild hybrid powertrain start at $104,000; the seven-seat long-wheelbase SE (LWB) starts at $110,000. Upgrade to the V8 and starting prices are $118,700 (SE) and $124,700 (SE LWB).
