The new vintage Vault platform, what’s in it for Gucci ?

After having cultivated the suspense, it is finally at the Milan Fashion Week that Alessandro Michele, artistic director of the house Gucci, unveiled his new project of vintage concept store: Vault.

 

Gucci, a Kering Group brand, unveiled a pop and colorful space at Milan Fashion Week for the launch of the new Vault platform in a 19th century building. This online concept store features vintage Gucci pieces, sourced by the house’s archivists.

 

It features pieces from collectors and individuals from around the world. These pieces are reconditioned and sometimes customized by Alessandro Michele himself.

 

Naturally, you will find the brand’s it-bags from the 60s to the 80s, but also suitcases, scarves and tableware. The site also features ready-to-wear skirts, dresses and pants designed by Tom Ford, then artistic director of the brand in 1999.

 

More than a vintage platform

 

The online concept store also offers new exclusive pieces from 13 emerging designers. Among them: Ahluwalia, Bianca Saunders, Boramy Viguier, Charles de Vilmorin, Collina Strada, Cormio or Gui Rosai. Alessandro Michele said that other young designers and brands will join the project in the future. He also thanked Tom Ford without whom there would be no internal archiving of collections at Gucci.

The designer says, “This was not designed to be profitable. The idea is to extend our love and create something different related to my passion for vintage, which is also a feature of my professional evolution. I am interested in mixing old things with contemporary things“.

 

 

 

The brand will offer about 30 new pieces per month, available on the site. Editorial content is also planned.

 

This is an opportunity for Gucci to highlight the brand’s archives and the know-how that has spanned generations. By giving pride of place to vintage, it is a circular economy that is being put in place. It also responds to an ever-growing consumer desire to consume better and more responsibly. At a time when consumer studies show a revival of second-hand clothing and accessories, Gucci is embracing the movement by offering its own platform. The idea of customization and refurbishment is also a strength for the e-shop that guarantees quality and durability of its products, removing the side that can put off the purchase, namely, a product too worn or tarnished.
