Dedicated to the economic development of fashion, decoration and design companies, the Village des Créateurs, located on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse in Lyon, has just elected Lyonnais fashion designer Nicolas Fafiotte as its president.
Fashion designer and creator of made-to-measure wedding dresses and evening wear, Nicolas Fafiotte succeeds Max Chaoul as president of the network, which supports a total of 79 fashion, design and lifestyle brands, including 12 in residence, in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region.
“A real network activator and creator of opportunities, the VDC is a business accelerator and facilitator of daily life. Thanks to the Talents de Mode competition that it has been organising since 2007, the VDC detects new fashion brands, encourages companies to set up in Lyon and contributes to their development”, emphasises the designer village. The Village of Designers emphasises.
A prestigious career
The designer began his training at the ESMOD school in 1996 where he met Isabelle Gleize, his “fairy godmother”. She ran the school until 2003 before taking over the management of the Village des Créateurs, where she continues to teach and support young designers. Nicolas Fafiotte was top of his class when he won the “haute couture” prize, and began his career in Lyon with the couturier Max Chaoul, before moving to Paris to work with Emmanuel Ungaro.
In the early 2000s, the designer opened his workshop for the creation of custom-made wedding and evening dresses in Lyon’s Presqu’île district.
Subsequently, his reputation took a leap forward when he designed numerous dresses for Sylvie Tellier for the Miss France elections as well as those for the finalists of the event, and when he became the official partner of the show.
He is also the creator of the spectacular« d’Etam Lingerie Live Show »outfits, which were present at every opening of Paris Fashion Week for several years.
More recently, and in response to the health crisis last December, he launched his first ever collection of accessories for women and men.
Close to the Village des Créateurs and its young talents, Nicolas Fafiotte has worked closely with Valérie Bonnet, founder of the silk accessories brand Divine Trouvaille.
“Nicolas also got in touch with Vanessa and Diego, the creators of the Testimonio brand. Originally from Mexico and Guatemala, the duo makes gold-plated costume jewellery by hand in Latin America. Committed to a virtuous circle, they finance a day of drinking water for Guatemalan families with each purchase. For Nicolas, it’s a real coup de coeur! He imagines with Testimonio 15 models of earrings, rings, bracelets and necklaces” confides the Village des Créateurs.
A promising direction
“The VDC, from its acronym, federates a community of creative people who exchange, share and co-construct projects. This synergy favours bridges between fashion and design, and positions the Village des Créateurs as a key player in the creative industries in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. Rich in this transversality, the structure contributes to the dynamism of the young creation and animates a breeding ground of young talents”, states the Village des Créateurs. The village of creators states.
But above all, the village is far from being unknown to the designer, “I was able to get practical information, support, participate in events and fashion shows. It was a real support. I received help when I started 20 years ago, and now it’s my turn to give advice. Helping those who are starting out also gives meaning to my life. Especially in these complicated times: creation must continue more than ever! ” .
From now on, and as the new president, Nicolas Fafiotte wishes to pass on his vision and gather the regional brands around the Village des Créateurs, in addition to the 259 he already supports. “It is important for me to work with the young generation of designers in the region, who are the bearers of meaning, in order to raise awareness and positively change the impact of fashion, decoration and design on society and the environment. “
“The Village des Créateurs is not reserved for emerging brands, but must be the anchor point for established regional fashion brands to create a real ecosystem of exchange and mutual aid. I want to bring together public and private players around the Village des Créateurs and promote the creative entrepreneurship support work undertaken by the Village des Créateurs for nearly twenty years,” he emphasises.
Since its creation, the village has supported more than 330 companies, 63% of which are still in business today.
