The luxury e-commerce platform Matchesfashion launches its project The Innovators to support young fashion designers from around the world in the face of the global health crisis.
Set up in July 2020, this support program was proposed to twelve men’s and women’s ready-to-wear designers who agreed to work together.
The British platform provided them with a number of resources that will enable them to get started by offering them social media, editorial and marketing support for a period of one year, as well as a budget totaling 1.8 million pounds sterling, or nearly 2 million euros. This budget will enable them to establish their marketing strategy under good conditions in addition to the preferential payment terms offered by the platform.
“[…] I am delighted to announce the launch of The Innovators program, a one-year commitment with 12 creators to whom we are providing significant retail, marketing and communication support. In addition, we are accompanying them throughout the program to help them gain confidence. We look forward to working with them to help them connect with our customers around the world and grow their businesses” said Ajay Kavan, CEO of MatchesFashion.
The MatchesFashion platform first went online in 2007 and since then has become recognized around the world for the kind of high-end products it markets and for its increasingly unexpected collaborations: “Our customers come to MatchesFashion for our fashion selection and are often looking for the best emerging talent. Our success is based on genuine partnerships with young designers and we are lucky to be able to work with so many talents“.
MatchesFashion has chosen some of the best emerging designers on the market for its project: Art School, Ahluwalia, Chopova Lowena, Stefan Cooke, Germanier, Halpern, Harris Reed, Charles Jeffrey de Loverboy, The be Magugu, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Bianca Saunders and Wales Bonner.
MatchesFashion took care for this innovative and solidarity project to highlight unique and creative personalities in order to give a new identity to fashion. Some current issues are at the heart of the fashion and luxury industry and this is what these twelve designers will be challenged on: eco-responsible fashion.
Grace Wales Bonner wants to merge artistic and cultural references, Charles Jeffrey de Loverboy intends to reinterpret haute couture techniques, Art School will look at the question of gender, Chopova Lowena will merge tradition and know-how, Harris Reed will put forward discussion and inclusion, Michael Halpern will present a new vision of glamour, Bianca Saunders will look at modern masculinity, Ludovic de Saint Sernin will touch on gender notions, Thebe Magugu will offer a new vision of his South African heritage and Stefan Cooke will propose a subversive and youthful approach.
