The finals of the Fifi Awards gala, renamed this year The Fragrance Foundation Awards for its 28th anniversary, took place on October 8 and called upon its experts to elect the best fragrance of this 2020 edition in the multiple categories represented. Yves-Saint-Laurent‘s perfume “Libre” won the title of Best Fragrance for a Women’s Fragrance.

This prestigious gala has for many years had the objective and motto of “Rewarding the know-how and talents of the perfume industry“.

Eight CSR experts and members of the gala’s partner companies were gathered on October 8 to elect the best fragrance of the year. The gala was chaired by Elise Ginioux, a member of the Executive Committee at Generali, to evaluate the dozens of entries submitted according to some fifty criteria, where iconic perfumes from major luxury houses were presented alongside new “outsiders“.

Due to the current situation, the ceremony took place entirely on the Internet, which imposed numerous constraints on the presentation of the fragrances.

Whether it was for the best launch, the most beautiful bottle, responsible innovation or the public prize, the perfume radiated in all its facets.

In 2019, “more than four hundred confidential fragrances [were] launched” according to The Fragrance Foundation Awards.

The competing creations that came out the year before the gala, concern different distribution channels: in selective channels (perfumeries and department stores) or in supermarkets, own stores and pharmacies.

The French brand Yves-Saint-Laurent won first place among the five finalists for Best Fragrance for a Women’s Perfume. The perfume baptized LIBRE, released in 2019, was signed by Anne Flipo and Carlos Benaïm. The perfume is characterized as “A perfume of freedom” being defined by “a masculine structure by essence and an ultra feminine heart“. according to its creators.

It is a unisex perfume which plays on genres but remains very sensual, woody, and with the multiple scents of musk, vanilla, Moroccan orange blossom and mandarin. The perfume takes a real fruity and exotic dimension in particular by the association of jasmine and blackcurrant.

Its creators have also chosen the British singer Dua Lipa as the muse of their product, who recently revealed to Vanity Fair magazine: “Be yourself without ever compromising, act as you want, believe in what you want, always be proud of what you do, and I feel that all these convictions are perfectly in line with the philosophy of Yves Saint Laurent’s new perfume“. And that is what the French house says about the scent of this creation: “a cry of freedom“.

The director of The Fragrance Foundation France, Philippe Ughetto, says that it is the duty of this gala to promote the talents and creativity of the perfume industry: “This industry needs all the talents to transmit and perpetuate its know-how, and to carry high the colors of a creative and dreamy perfumery, rich in its heritage and proud of the longevity of its creations. ». He also adds “[That it] must also adapt to the globalization of its products, so that they can be welcomed and appreciated by consumers, aware and sensitized to this artistic and cultural expression“.

It should also be noted that a public prize in addition to the other categories has been awarded for the past ten years. To award this one, the number of voters each year amounts to tens of thousands who can contribute via partner sites such as Marionnaud, Voici or Stylist.
