The first luxury cruise ship in China

China recently named its first luxury cruise ship, which will operate for the domestic cruise market.

As China has begun to develop its domestic cruise and converted ferry industry, the new joint venture between China Merchants Shekou and Viking Cruises is designed to bring a new level of luxury to the domestic market.

The cruise ship will use Shenzhen as its home port to launch a coastal route focused on the domestic tourist destination experience.

The selection of Shenzhen and the Shekou cruise home port comes as the port marks its fifth anniversary since launching cruise operations.

The company said it plans to offer in-depth cultural tours to domestic tourists with strong interest in nature, history and culinary culture.

The launch of the new cruise operation is also the next step in China’s efforts to develop the port as an international cruise destination.
