Barbie, the hit movie everyone’s been talking about since its release, has surpassed $1 billion in ticket sales worldwide.
Warner Bros announced on Sunday that its latest feature Barbie has reached, in just a few weeks, the billion dollars in admissions worldwide.
In France, it ranks 5th among the best movie starts of the year, after Super Mario Bros, Asterix & Obelix, Alibi.com 2 and the last Guardians of the galaxy.
The fantasy comedy has earned $459 million in the US and Canada, and an additional $572 million in the rest of the world since its theatrical release, for a total of $1.0315 billion, according to Warner Bros.

“As distributors, we are not often speechless when it comes to the performance of a movie, but Barbie has blown even our most optimistic predictions,” said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros’ National Distribution President.
Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig, the film’s director, is currently the only woman to have reached $1 billion in sales for a single film, surpassing the $821.8 million generated by Wonder Woman.
According to AP, in the history of the modern box office, only about fifty feature films have earned more than a billion dollars.
However, three films co-directed by women remain ahead of Warner Bros’ latest feature, including Frozen ($1.3 billion), Frozen 2 ($1.45 billion), co-directed by Jennifer Lee and Captain Marvel by Anna Boden ($1.1 billion).
Barbie, however, surpassed Captain Marcel in North America, with $459.4 million (versus $426.8 million) in revenue.
With these astronomical figures, Mattel, Warner Bros and Greta Gerwig have something to see life in pink!
