Global hotel leader Accor is investing again in Africa with a luxury hotel in Djibouti City, the capital of Djibouti, under the Fairmont label.
With more than 5,000 hotels and residences worldwide, Accor continues its investment in Africa with this future hotel in Djibouti City under the Fairmont luxury label.
Scheduled for delivery in 2024, the hotel will have 155 rooms and 10 apartments, 5 restaurants and more than 1,300m2 dedicated to events and other business meetings.
It will be strategically located on the seafront, on the Plateau du Serpent, offering convenience to the Djibouti port and a breathtaking view.
“Accor has always been a key player in the tourism industry in Africa,” said Mark Willis, CEO of Accor India, Middle East, Africa and Turkey, “and Djibouti is no exception. We are confident that this project will greatly benefit Djibouti’s hotel landscape with the introduction of one of Accor’s flagship luxury brands, Fairmont, while supporting the government’s efforts in its Djibouti 2035 vision.”
For the Djibouti government, tourism is a priority and by 2035, the idea is to attract 500,000 visitors to discover the country’s natural heritage.
Accor has partnered in this project with Carnegie Hill Hospitality, a company founded in 2018 and a major player in the real estate sector in Djibouti, headed by Ms. Haibado Ismail.
Ms. Ismail said, “This is not about building one more hotel. The partnership with Fairmont and Accor underlines our desire to create a unique place, emblematic of Djibouti. At the heart of our approach, there is a desire for authenticity. (…) It is also about taking our part in the development of the country and its economy, while offering a hotel complex with the highest level of luxury and service.”
The project will also include a spa and fitness facilities, a Fairmont Gold Lounge, a lounge, a kids club, a beach water sports center and all the amenities to become a flagship destination.
It should be noted that the Accor group has maintained a presence in Africa for over 40 years and currently operates 155 properties (26,376 keys). The group has managed to stay afloat despite health restrictions in Africa thanks in particular to Dubai (down 44% in Q2 2021)
