The House of Hermès announced on November 24th, on the occasion of CSI 5* at the Grand Palais in Paris, that the twelfth edition of its competition will not take place as planned in March 2021, but only the following year, in 2022. This postponement is due to the health crisis, the evolution of which remains uncertain, forcing many organizers to cancel their events.
The Hermès Jumping competition, which had already been canceled last year, will therefore not be held for the year 2020. The annual horseback riding competition was to be held at the Grand Palais in Paris, which had become the Grand Palais ephemeral during the renovations, which should last until the 2024 Olympic Games.
The event has therefore been postponed for two years and should be held on March 18, 19, and 20, 2022 at the ephemeral Grand Palais. The company issued a press release detailing the reasons for the postponement.
“The House of Hermès, which has been organizing the Saut Hermès at the Grand Palais since 2010, has decided to postpone the next edition because of the uncertainties related to the spread of Covid-19 and the health imperatives inherent in this situation. The Saut Hermès, an unmissable event in the international equestrian calendar, has for more than ten years hosted three days of CSI 5* show jumping competition in the heart of Paris. The next edition was to be held at the Grand Palais on March 19, 20, and 21, 2021.”, they state in this press release of November 24, 2020.
Hermès goes on to announce the next scheduled dates for the competition: ”The company is committed to bringing together in Paris the greatest riders, their horses and equestrian sports enthusiasts, and will do everything possible with its partners to welcome them on March 18, 19 and 20, 2022 at the ephemeral Grand Palais“.
In 2019, it is the Lorraine-born Simon Delestre who wins the Hermès jumping Grand Prix, with a tasteful amount, Hermès Ryan. The winning horse is a small chestnut gelding (1m60), and at just 15 years old, this French saddle has earned him nearly €2,150,000 over the course of his career.
The Hermès jumping is not the only equestrian competition that has been postponed this year, and for the winter period 2020/2021, the organizers of these competitions also had to do without the Longines Equita Lyon or the Jumping International de Bordeaux.
