eToro, a trading and brokerage company, unveiled on Monday the top ten most popular stocks on its platform for French investors. It’s a way of finding out about investment habits and strategies in France.

Tesla, Air France-KLM, Alibaba, Amazon, Apple, all these listed companies have their place in the top ten most popular stocks in France on the eToro trading application. Nine of the ten most traded stocks on the platform worldwide are also traded by French users. Air France-KLM, the only French stock on the platform, is the only stock not to feature in eToro’s global top ten.

Similarly, nine stocks, including seven American ones, belong to the technology sector. “They remain popular with French investors, but also with investors around the world, ” explains Antoine Fraysse-Soulier, head of market analysis at eToro. If we expand to the twenty most popular stocks worldwide, three new French stocks appear: LVMH, Total Energies and Airbus.

It is Tesla’s stock that has topped the list in France for two consecutive quarters. “Tesla continues to gain market share in the electric vehicle sector,” says Antoine Fraysse-Soulier. “Its results are beating analysts’ forecasts, quarter after quarter, despite the shortage of semiconductors.”

GAFAMs, such as Amazon, Apple and Google, are also very well represented, with no less than four stocks in the top ten in France. “Investors are looking for stocks that climb on the stock market over the long term, that have steadily increasing profit growth and that are leaders in their fields of activity, which is the case for GAFAM,” says Antoine Fraysse-Soulier.

The Chinese electric car manufacturer Nio is ranked fourth in this ranking, driven by the ever-growing interest of investors in electric cars. Meanwhile, Coinbase, the first 100% crypto-listed platform, is in fifth place, as it benefits from eToro’s community interest in cryptoassets.

Rounding out the rest of the rankings is Alibaba, which comes in at number six despite a stock market slump of more than 50% since its 2020 highs, due more to political than economic reasons. Finally, Gamestop, a high-profile social networking stock in the US, is in seventh place in the ranking.
