The brand recently received approval for the Sciences Based Targets (SBTI) initiative, validating its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. It thus becomes the first English fashion house to receive this noble certification.
This approval confirms Stella McCartney’s commitment to significantly reduce its environmental impact, in line with the Paris Agreement, which seeks to achieve social and environmental goals in the fashion and luxury sector. In detail, this Paris climate agreement, in force since November 2016, aims to contain the rise in temperatures well below 2 degrees and keep it at 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Several objectives
In the short term, the company plans to reduce its absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 75 per cent by 2025, and reduce its supply chain emissions by 46 per cent by 2030 to 2019 levels. Over the long term, it plans to reduce its total emissions by 90% by 2040.

Among the initiatives already implemented by the brand to achieve its objectives, we can talk about the intensification of the supply of regenerative agriculture. For some time now, the eponymous designer and her team have been working closely with farmers, promoting more responsible and restorative approaches.
The brand has been working for 5 years with SOKTAS, a supplier of regenerative cotton. Together, they designed and developed the world’s first high-end garment made from regenerative cotton that can be found in the spring-summer 2023 collection.
She is also involved in the Apparel Impact Institute’s Clean by Design initiative, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of the supply chain and promote the transition to renewable energy.
