Last June, it was announced that Marc Hériard Dubreuil, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rémy Cointreau, would be replaced. For its last General Meeting, the news is good for the group.

Marc Hériard Dubreuil, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rémy Cointreau, attended the group’s Annual General Meeting yesterday for the last time. He will soon pass the torch to his niece, Marie-Amélie de Leusse. And he leaves under the best auspices: “All the planets have aligned, we have outperformed the global market for spirits and wine” he said.

Indeed, the leader boasted a “historic” year: billings up 27% to 1.3 billion euros, operating profit up 42% to 334.4 million euros and current operating margin up from 23.4% to 25.5%. Eric Vallat, the group’s CEO, defines its growth as “sustainable and healthy” based on structural consumer trends, such as the upmarket positioning of customers worldwide.

The meeting also approved the financial statements for fiscal year 2021/22 and set the amount of the ordinary dividend at €1.85 per share in cash. It also approved the payment of a special dividend of €1.00 per share.

Growth driven by exports

The group’s activity is mainly carried out in the Americas, where Rémy Cointreau generates no less than 55% of its turnover. This is followed by Asia-Pacific (37%) and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (8%). To a shareholder’s question about the covid-19 restrictions in China, the CEO replied: “They have been very localized (…) Our sales are more in the southeast, which has been less penalized by the health situation. Yes, we have a logistics center in Shanghai, but we are now organized to deal with Covid.

On the CSR side, Rémy Cointreau is committed to investing in its “Sustainable Exception” plan, some 80 million euros in the next ten years. The CEO asks “How can we not have CSR policies when the land is the source of everything we produce?“. 78% of its farmland is committed to sustainable and responsible certification and to address global warming, the group is moreover developing grape varieties resistant to temperature changes. “We are very proud to be the 1st carbon neutral group within the wine and spirits sector this year,” added Eric Vallat.

Governance

Finally, the meeting approved the renewal of the directorships of Hélène Dubrule, Olivier Jolivet, Marie-Amélie de Leusse and the company ORPAR for a period of three years.

The meeting also approved the appointment of Alain Li as an independent director for a period of three years, replacing Marc Hériard Dubreuil, who will now represent ORPAR.
