Piper-Heidsieck, Charles Heidsieck and Rare Champagne, part of the EPI Group, are pleased to announce that they have achieved B Corp certification with a score of 91.9 points.
The three Champagne Houses of the EPI Group are strengthening their social and environmental commitments with this internationally recognized certification. For them, this is a crucial step in reinventing their practices towards a positive and goal-oriented business model. B Corp certification assesses the social and environmental impact of brands, with more than 300 questions on governance, workers, communities and environmental friendliness, among others.
B Corp certification doesn’t just evaluate a product or service: It evaluates the overall positive impact of the company that supports it and engages it in a process of continuous improvement.
“We are very proud to join this community of pioneers who are driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good and transforming the world economy for the benefit of all individuals, communities and the planet.”According to Damien Lafaurie, President and CEO of Piper-Heidsieck, Charles Heidsieck & Rare Champagnes and the EPI Group’s Wine and Champagne division, “We are honored to be the first Champagne producers to achieve Certified B Corporation status and are fully committed to the B Lab vision of working towards an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economic system. (…) “I am particularly proud of the tremendous work that the teams at Piper-Heidsieck, Charles Heidsieck & Rare Champagnes have done to achieve the profound transformation required for B Corp certification, and we will only get better in the future.”
Concrete initiatives taken by the Champagne Houses to achieve B Corp certification include reducing carbon footprint in line with the Paris climate agreement, moving 100% of suppliers to Europe by 2030, or continuing sustainable environmental practices in the vineyards they own. Currently, the Houses do not use any herbicides, pesticides or chemicals and will support the VDC (Viticulture Durable en Champagne) conversion of all partner winemakers by 2025.
