Phoebe Philo, the famous British designer known for her ten years with Celine, is launching her own eponymous brand with LVMH as a minority investor.

Phoebe Philo is finally back. In February 2020, the designer had already started planning a new collection and interviewing designers to work on it. Since the end of last year, she has been building her small team working in London since the end of last year.

Being in my studio and creating again has been both exciting and incredibly rewarding,” Philo details in one of her statements, “I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with my audience and people around the world. Being independent, governing and experimenting on my own terms is extremely important to me” she continues.

The designer is best known for her ten years with the luxury brand Céline, to which she managed to give a much younger image. As a reminder, Céline is part of the LVMH group.

A constructive working relationship with LVMH

In fact, she called on the group as a partner for the launch of her new brand. “I’ve had a very constructive and creative working relationship with LVMH for many years,” says the designer. “So it was a natural progression for us to reconnect on this new project. I’ve really enjoyed exchanging new ideas with Bernard Arnault and Delphine Arnault and I’m thrilled to embark on this adventure with their support,” she added.

For his part, Bernard Arnault said he was “very happy to be associated with Phobe in her entrepreneurial adventure and wishes her every success.”

Phoebe Philo is also known for her work at Chloé, where she worked for several years alongside Stella McCartney, whom she later replaced as the brand’s artistic director.

For the time being, the size of the French group’s minority stake could not be known immediately and the financial terms were not disclosed. Philo is the only other shareholder in the company.
