Lagardère grew by 4.58% to €26.48, returning to its levels of early October 2018, as Bernard Arnault strengthened its position in the publishing and travel retail group. In a declaration to the Autorité des marchés financiers, Financière Agache, a holding company controlled by Groupe Arnault, declared that on September 29, 2020, it had individually exceeded the 5% threshold of Lagardère’s voting rights.

It now holds 6.69% of the capital and 5.07% of the voting rights of this company. Financière Agache has therefore acquired approximately 1.2% of the capital in the last 7 days.

However, Arnaud Lagardère and Lagardère, LM Holding and Lagardère Capital acting in concert with Groupe Arnault and Financière Agache, have not crossed any threshold. They hold 13.95% of the capital and 16.08% of the voting rights.

Last Thursday, Vivendi announced that it had crossed the thresholds of 25% of the capital and 20% of the voting rights of Lagardère SCA. Vivendi owns 26.7% of the capital and 20.2% of the voting rights of the company. The media group is approaching the 29.99% threshold, the threshold before a mandatory takeover bid is triggered.

In the short term, it is likely that Vivendi and Groupe Arnault will continue their acquisitions, which should therefore continue to support Lagardère’s share price,” explains Oddo BHF. For the analyst, if Groupe Arnault stops its acquisitions at around 10%, it could mean that it then aims to acquire the Qatar stake (13%). The concert would then hold nearly 30% of the capital and voting rights and therefore a blocking minority.
