Paris Fashion Week: Hollywood glamour of the spring-summer 2021 Chanel show

On the last day of Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2020, Chanel decided to close the season by paying tribute to its relationship with the film industry.

Just one year ago, Chanel presented its spring-summer 2020 collection on an identical reproduction of the rooftops of Paris. This year, even though the health crisis has considerably reduced the number of physical fashion shows, the French label wanted to be present for a fashion show at the Grand Palais in Paris.

24 hours before the show, the French house had given some clues on the theme of the parade via its Instagram account, unveiling excerpts from famous feature films such as Le Mépris (1963), Une femme est une femme (1961), Pierrot le Fou (1965) and À bout de souffle (1960) by Jean-Luc Godard, La Piscine (1969) by Jacques Deray and Ascenseur pour l’échafaud (1958) by Louis Malle.

This time, it is not the roofs of the capital that are reproduced, but rather the emblematic Hollywood logo, in the Chanel style. For the occasion, the six letters were nestled under the nave of the Grand Palais, overlooking an immaculate catwalk, around which the reduced number of guests took their seats.

Among the guests present to admire the work of Virginie Viard, artistic director of the brand since the death of Karl Lagerfeld, were celebrities such as Vanessa Paradis and her daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, dressed in Chanel, as well as Marion Cotillard and Caroline de Maigret, who also attended.

The Dutch model Jill Kortleve, far from the usual thinness found on the catwalk, is present among the models of the brand and scrolls a second time for Chanel. According to Vogue, she embodies “with freshness this new guard of super healthy curvy models”.

The spring-summer 2020 Chanel collection is in the image of its catwalk, minimalist, and above all, an ode to Hollywood glamour. For this season, Virginie Viard honors famous actresses, reproducing the emblematic outfits of movie stars like Jeanne Moreau or Romy Schneider.

“I was thinking of actresses at the time of the photo call, on the red carpet, that moment when they are called by photographers. And then the fans waiting for them behind the barriers, this very lively side of the cinema outside the cinema, that’s what I like,” explains the house’s artistic director in a letter to the guests.

A nice way to close a Parisian Fashion Week shaken by the health crisis.
