The legendary Orient Express brand, owned by the Accor group, has signed a partnership with the Italian group Arsenale S.p.A. to open the first Orient Express hotel in Venice, after Rome.
The Orient Express hotel will be built in the fabulous Palazzo Donà Giovannelli in Venice, Italy. An initiative of the Accor group, owner of Orient Express, and the Arsenale S.p.A. group, this hotel should see the light of day in early 2024. The architect and interior designer Aline Asmar d’Amman and her studio Culture in Architecture will be in charge of the project.
The Palazzo Donà Giovannelli, which will host this prestigious establishment, is a palazzo-tresor built in 1400 by the architect Filippo Calendario, famous signature of the Doge’s Palace. Formerly the residence of the Duke of Urbino, a patron of the arts, it was renovated twice, in 1800 by the architect Gian Battista Meduna, and was successively owned by the Donà and Giovannelli families.
Inspired by the cultures and eras that have passed through its history, the Orient Express Venice Hotel will offer 45 rooms and suites, all overlooking the gardens and the city’s famous canals. The hotel’s bar will be located in the old piano nobile ballroom, the building’s noble floor and the few hidden rooftop terraces will offer the most beautiful views of the wonders of the Serenissima.
Stephen Alden, General Manager Raffles and Orient Express, Accor is delighted with this new opening and says “The arrival of the Orient Express hotel in Venice resonates naturally with the history of the brand. A return to the roots of the legend that finds its ultimate expression in the Palazzo Donà Giovannelli. Driven by her multicultural background, her passion for Venice and her unique poetic language, Aline Asmar d’Amman will sublimate the design of a palace recognized as one of the most charismatic in the world.”
