Swiss watch brand Swatch and luxury watch brand Omega have teamed up once again to design the new Omega x Swatch Mission to Moonshine Gold watch. Inspired by a previous model, it has a gold hand that is already attracting many enthusiasts. Available on March 7, it will initially be sold in only four stores in Zurich, Tokyo, Milan and London.

Omega and Swatch have added a new piece to their Omega x Swatch Moonswatch collection. For this new collab, the two prestigious brands present the new “Omega x Swatch Mission to Moonshine Gold”. This version features a touch of gold on the chronograph seconds hand, giving it a different color than the other hands. Specifically, it’s an Omega Moonshine Gold coating made of recycled gold from the Swatch Group’s certified refinery. In its latest Instagram post, Swatch clarified that the seconds hand was produced “during the full moon in February”, and that the Omega x Swatch Mission to Moonshine Gold watch is not limited in number of pieces and is not available online.

Long lines

Last Sunday, Swatch had published a short clip of about ten seconds, in which a shadow passes over a moon with an orange, almost golden color. The teaser concluded with the announcement that the Omega x Swatch Mission to Moonshine Gold would be launched into orbit on March 7. No visuals were released at the time.

Initially, only four stores, located in four different cities, will display it: Paradeplatz in Zurich (Switzerland), the Tokyo Stock Exchange (Japan), Piazza Affari in Milan (Italy) and the Royal Exchange in London (UK). But Swatch said in its latest Instagram post that the watch would soon be available “in other locations during the next full moon”. After the release of this teaser, long lines were observed in front of the said stores, and the sale should be very supervised to avoid overflow.

Moonswatch, a popular collection

In 2022, Swatch joined forces with Omega to create the MoonSwatch collaboration. This included 11 different Bioceramic MoonSwatches, named after a mission in space, from the sun to Mars. The watches were based on the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, which was worn by NASA astronauts on all their manned missions, including the moon landings. Since then, more than one million models have been sold.

The Mission to the Moon watch, with a special seconds hand, will not replace the Mission to the Moon, Swatch also said. The Mission to the Moon watch from the original MoonSwatch collection is designed like the original Omega Moonwatch, in a steel gray color, with white hands and tachymeter scale.

The Moonswatch models have so far been very profitable for Swatch and Omega. This new watch is no exception and is also attracting a lot of attention. The two major watch brands are expected to sell the product at around 250 euros.
