This year for the Beijing Winter Olympics, Omega, the official timekeeper of the games, offers state-of-the-art technology.
This year’s Beijing Olympic Winter Games is hosting no less than 109 events and Omega will be timing every second of them as Official Timekeeper. Omega has been the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games on 30 occasions since 1932.
As Official Timekeeper of Beijing 2022, Omega remains one of the world’s pioneers in the field of real-time data. As never before, the next generation of cutting-edge technology enables the brand to track the performances of the world’s greatest athletes.
“Since 1932, OMEGA has been able to revolutionize, develop and implement many of the most famous timekeeping technologies in the world of sports,” the brand explains on its website. Beijing 2022 is the playground for sport-specific innovations and state-of-the-art timing systems. For example, the Scan’O’Vision MYRIA is the most advanced photo finish camera in Omega’s history. It can record up to 10,000 digital images per second to produce a composite photo that gives the judges a clear view of the official rankings and times of each event. Photocells, on the other hand, are small red boxes placed at the finish line of speed skating events. They emit beams of light that cross the finish line only two or three centimeters above the ice. As soon as one of the winning athlete’s skates crosses the finish line, the clock is automatically stopped to provide an accurate final time.

In addition to these cutting-edge technologies, Omega is unveiling two new watch models exclusively for the Beijing Olympic Games. They are the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M and the Seamaster Driver 300M. The first is a 41mm stainless steel model with a white ceramic dial with a special frosted finish and date display. Diamond-polished hands and hour markers are blued and coated with white Super-LumiNova, while red accents are found in the “Seamaster” inscription and quarter-hour numerals on the blue scale. On the case back, the company has stamped the Beijing 2022 emblem, surrounded by a wave pattern. The watch comes with a stainless steel bracelet featuring OMEGA’s patented screw and pin system. It is powered by the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer 8900.
The second, the Seamaster Driver 300M, is a 42mm stainless steel watch topped with a grade 5 titanium bezel featuring an embossed dive scale. Its blue ceramic sunray dial features laser-engraved waves and rhodium-plated indexes and hands coated with Super-LumiNova. In honor of Beijing 2022, the watch features five special minute markers at 2, 4, 8, 10 and 12 o’clock, each in one of the five colors of the Olympic rings. The polished and satin-finished case back is stamped with the 2022 Winter Olympics emblem and reveals the watchmaker’s patented Naiad Lock system that keeps all engraved indications perfectly aligned. The watch is powered by the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer 8800 caliber, a movement that meets the watch industry’s highest standards of precision, performance and magnetic resistance.
