The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has revealed the official calendar of the next New York Fashion Week to be held from September 13 to 16, 2020.
While London, Milan, and Paris have chosen a hybrid fashion week with virtual and physical presentations following sanitary measures, the Big Apple will in turn present digital shows, with a few exceptions, via its RUNWAY360 platform.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has shaken the global fashion industry and hit New York City particularly hard,” said Steven Kolb, CFDA’s CEO. Fashion Week is a critical time for brands to connect with the press, retailers and consumers, and I am proud of how quickly the CFDA has evolved to meet the needs of the industry in creating RUNWAY360.”
The presentation of the spring-summer 2021 ready-to-wear collections, scheduled from September 13 to 16, will feature only about sixty shows, mainly in digital format.
Indeed, the fashion industry has suffered for several months from the coronavirus crisis, and even more so for New York, whose fashion weeks have only been getting shorter for several seasons.
It is nevertheless good news for the public and fashionistas who will have the chance to view some shows and a lot of content online.
Also note that fifteen new names – which might not have been so numerous without this exceptional new edition – will appear in the official program.
Among them: Aknvas, Anne Klein, Colleen Allen, Dur Doux, Oak & Acorn, Venicew and Wolk Morais.
New York Fashion Week will begin on September 13 at 5 pm with Jason Wu and will end on September 16 at 7 pm with Tom Ford.
It will also host the biggest names in American design, including Alexander Wang, Hugo Boss, Coach, Jeremy Scott, Longchamp, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, The Row, Tom Ford…
On the other hand, Tory Burch, Proenza Schouler, Marc Jacobs, Prabal Gurung, Michael Kors are among the big absentees of this edition.
