The New York Fashion Week began Friday. While some major designers are missing, this Fashion Week is placed under the sign of diversity and novelty. Luxus plus tells you more about the first shows.
Synonymous with diversity, this new New York Fashion Week, which runs from February 10 to 15, is unlike any other. A total of 17 registered designers are black. Asian designers, 23 in number, have never been so represented. And parity is respected, with female designers making up half of the schedule.
This American Fashion Week also highlights young emerging designers and the abundance of its shows exceeds the expectations of guests and the public, who do not know where to turn, fashion is more than ever omnipresent in the Big Apple.
New York Fashion Week hosts a total of 110 brands, 76 of which have shown or will show live, 19 of which will hold showrooms and 22 of which will hold digital shows. However, some big names in American fashion like Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein or Marc Jacobs will not be grazing the catwalk this season.
Friday, two brands opened the ball, including Rodarte, the brand of the Californian sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy.
Rodarte: a fashion show with a Wednesday Addams look
Created in 2005 by the Californian duo, Rodarte is a high-end brand, some of whose pieces are now in American museums. For this first day of New York Fashion Week, the two sisters presented their new fall-winter collection in Brooklyn, in a setting as sparkling as it is intriguing. Candlesticks, dishes and silver tablecloths surround the models, dark and gothic. Surfing on the Wednesday Addams wave, or inspired by the proverbial “Black is Black“, this collection is as mystical as it is fashionable. Long batwing sleeves, endless necklines, lace, but also tulle, silk and colors. The catwalk was as eclectic as the streets of New York.
In the first part, dark and gothic pieces were paraded, giving way to touches of color, which crescendo until completely covering the ball gowns or evening dresses. Costumes, dresses or disguises? we don’t know anymore. Some models seem to be inspired by the villains of the Disney universe, others take up the codes of the ice princesses, with glittering dresses and coats, reminiscent of Christmas garlands. There are also beautiful dresses in colored knitwear, with drooping sleeves.
Between sequins, velvet, satin, feathers and tulle, the two Californian sisters make us travel in a dreamlike universe, almost fairy-like, far from the warm and relaxed fashion of California.
Patbo: when the Rio Carnival invites itself to New York
The last collection of the Brazilian Patricia Bonaldi was all elegance and glitter. For the occasion, a large number of influencers and celebrities were present, including Ashley Park from the series Emily In Paris or Elizabeth Gillies who plays the role of Fallon in the series Dynasty. After 20 years of creation, Patbo continues to attract socialites with its bright and colorful looks, created by highly skilled artisans, all from Brazil, like the designer.
This season’s print is multicolored and reminiscent of carnival. The designer is surfing on the trend of two-piece evening wear. These play the card of velvet, silk, all sequins, sequins or transparency. All the looks are at the cutting edge of fashion, with a slight touch of extravagance and singularity. Among the strong pieces are velvet, duck blue or mustard yellow suits with ornaments, but also evening gowns with flouncy and light textures, in all colors.
Christian Siriano: inspired by Audrey Hepburn, all in flowers and volume
The eponymous designer’s new fall winter collection was an ode to elegance and nostalgia, with a fabulous tribute to Hollywood artist Audrey Hepburn. Hundreds of flowers lined the runway, accompanying these new looks, oscillating between retro and trendy, ancient and modern, extravagance and balance.
The public discovered voluptuous colorful evening dresses, but also black & white printed suits, accessorized with big hats. Among the most iconic looks of the collection, we can note this pink and purple flowery dress in the shape of a mermaid, this magnificent yellow silk evening suit whose opening reveals the legs and has a drape that perfectly marks the waist or the trend of the moment, a blazer accompanied by panties and simple tights.
Known for dressing the stars on the red carpet, the American designer has shown through his latest collection, his skills in designing for a variety of people and clothes, which represent realistic and current standards of beauty.
