Moët Hennessy once again demonstrates its environmental commitment at the World Living Soils Forum

Moët Hennessy, the wine and spirits division of the LVMH group, organized the first World Living Soils Forum (WLSF) on June 1 and 2, 2022, in Arles-en-Provence. This was an opportunity for Moët Hennessy to strengthen its action on the protection of life and the environment through discussions between scientists, international experts, committed personalities and players in the wine industry. A look back at the opening of the global forum by Philippe Schaus, CEO of Moët Hennessy.

Moët Hennessy‘s objective is to mobilise as many players as possible to play their part in the soil protection movement. The group is continuing the project launched in 2020, during the Vinexpo trade show in Paris, to share the knowledge and questions of the agroecological transition.

“We need to find new and ambitious solutions to the challenges directly and indirectly related to soil conservation and regeneration in viticulture. Then we must share them, so that they are available to everyone. The very future of our profession depends on it,” says Philippe Schaus, CEO of Moët Hennessy.

The pressure is becoming stronger and stronger for the companies to act in favour of the environment, but it should be noted that this pressure does not come primarily from consumers, he says.

Indeed, Philippe Schaus reports that the incentive to make the environmental transition comes more from the companies’ employees: “I am often asked whether the pressure comes from our consumers, who ask us to improve the way you manage your land. The answer is no, it’s not. The pressure is not primarily coming from consumers” … “the strongest questions are coming from our teams. In the future, if we want to attract motivated young talent to join us, they want to see that we are doing something, that as a sector we are taking initiatives and investing in the protection of our environment and that we are ensuring continuity in the long term.”

The challenge of these two days is above all to test and learn to preserve the soil, underlines Sandrine Sommer, the head of sustainable development for Moët & Hennessy : “We depend on the soil, there is no other choice to guarantee our prosperity, the quality of our products and even more so to ensure that the younger generations will continue to want to work with us.”
