According to a Fenwick study, three Champagne brands, Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon, and Veuve Clicquot, appear among the top thirty most quoted luxury brands in their songs by current pop music artists. Moët & Chandon is ahead of Cartier, Dior, and Givenchy!
Alcohol and music go hand in hand…
And when it comes to champagne, the king of drinks, the combination is even more winning. And if the famous “Libiamo ne’lieti calici” (“let’s drink from these famous glasses”) from his Traviata, Verdi did not give rise to brand placement, morals have changed since then…
According to a study conducted by Fenwick, the largest family-owned department store group in the UK, some of the great champagne houses are particularly inspiring to the world’s great pop artists and sometimes even more so than some of the fashion world’s leading players!
The British retailer looked at the number of times luxury brands appear in the lyrics of popular songs. To this end, a complete list of luxury brands was collected and entered into a music search engine.
Top 10
Moët & Chandon, cited in 861 songs, is the only champagne brand to appear in the top 10. Placed 8th among the most cited luxury brands in music, it is ahead of prestigious fashion houses (Dior, Givenchy) and jewelry houses (Cartier).
Dom Pérignon is ranked 23rd, followed by Veuve Clicquot, the 28th most inspiring luxury brand for musicians, ahead of Jimmy Choo, Alexander Wang, Moncler and Bulgari. Dom Pérignon is mentioned 180 times and Veuve Clicquot 95 times.
Among the Moët & Chandon lovers, we can quote Jay-Z, who explains in his song Feelin’ It, “I’m feelin’ it fill the glass to the top with Moet.”
Taylor Swift and Katy Perry make Dom Pérignon foam in their songs “Champagne Problems” and “Birthday” (“Pop your confetti, pop your Pérignon”..).
While Calvin Harris sings, “Yeah, so bring the Veuve Clicquot” in “Drinking from the Bottle.”
The companies mentioned can thus benefit from a relay of notoriety with fans who are often more adept at beer and Coca-Cola. It is not certain that these celebrations are always respectful of the customs and image of these beverages, the fruit of a long tradition and elaboration… It is up to the companies concerned to take the reins to perfect this education!
