Moët Hennessy announced earlier this week the departure of Moët & Chandon president Berta de Pablos-Barbier. She will be replaced from July 3 by Sybille Scherer, the current head of the six Chandon estates. The subsidiary of the Lvmh group has also announced the appointment of two other directors to head the Dom Pérignon and Mercier Houses.

Moët & Chandon, the Champagne division of the Moët Hennessy group, has undergone an unprecedented reorganization.

Philippe Schauss, Chairman of Moët Hennessy, officially announced on Monday June 26 the departure of Berta de Pablos-Barbier from the presidency of Moët & Chandon, where she joined only three years ago. According to a press release, her departure was motivated by “personal reasons”.

Berta de Pablos-Barbier, an agricultural engineer by training, has worked for Mars, Boucheron and Lacoste. She leaves her place to Sybille Scherer, who has been head of Maison Chandon since 2019. Sybille Scherer now takes the reins of the Moët & Chandon and Ruinart brands.

Maison Moët & Chandon, which includes brands such as Moët & Chandon, Dom Perignon, Ruinart and Mercier, is itself owned by LVMH.

New organization

Two other important appointments were announced, marking significant changes within Moët Hennessy.

For the first time, the decision was taken to give Dom Pérignon its own presidency, to which Thomas Moradpour was appointed.

Previously, Thomas Moradpour was President of the Glenmorangie whisky brand. He also held the position of Marketing Director at Hennessy from 2014 to 2018.

Maison Mercier also welcomes a new President in Julien Morel, who was President at Moët Hennessy for 14 years.

This reorganization will enable LVMH to strengthen its champagne brands. Last year, the group achieved an exceptional performance, shipping 70.9 million bottles, compared with 66.8 million in 2021 and 52.4 million in 2020.
