The world’s number one luxury goods company LVMH has revealed its environmental promises through its “Life 360” program, following on from its Life 2020 project (LVMH Initiatives for the Environment).

In line with the Paris climate agreement, the LVMH group, headed by Bernard Arnault, outlined its Life 360 roadmap, summarizing its environmental program. Through this plan, LVMH announces that it is adopting a strategy of “creative circularity“, and is committed to greater transparency.

The Life 360 program is based on three key issues and highlights three key dates: 2023, 2026, and 2030.

Preservation of biodiversity

With regard to the preservation of biodiversity, the LVMH group is undertaking to completely stop using single-use and fossil-based plastics in its packaging by 2026. This commitment aims to reach 100% of LVMH products designed with eco-responsible packaging by 2030.

The LVMH group, which owns 23 houses in the Wines and Spirits sector, is collaborating with Unesco and has announced its support for the “Man and Biosphere” project. This program aims to develop regenerative agriculture in the sector and supports the historic Ruinart house, which LVMH owns, in its reforestation of vineyards.

Finally, in order to respect ecosystems, and in particular on the issue of water use quotas, the group promises that its supply chains will be certified for strategic materials by 2026.

Global warming

The world’s leading luxury goods company also announced that all of the electricity consumed by its stores and production sites will be converted to renewable energy. Thus, by 2026, LVMH would reduce its CO2 emissions by 50% compared to 2019 data.

The circular economy

The LVMH group plans to adopt a strategy of “creative circularity” in order to allow recycling to better respond to the particularities of luxury. Indeed, the group has created a channel dedicated to the research and development of alternative materials, and the reuse of old inventory, as well as the recycling of unsold items.

Finally, LVMH has announced the creation of a circular economy service, led by a group start-up. This new service will be responsible for selling unused fabrics from LVMH houses to other companies.
