Belmond, the British luxury hotel chain, announced on Monday the name of its new CEO, Dan Ruff. He will take up his post on July 1.
The LVMH Group subsidiary has announced that Dan Ruff, COO since 2018, will become Belmond’s new CEO as of July 1.
He succeeds Roeland Vos, who has been at the helm of the company for eight years and will remain Chairman of the Board. The latter will accompany Belmond on specific projects.
“I’m delighted to be handing over the reins to Dan. I’ve known him for a very long time. He will ensure continuity in Belmond’s journey towards excellence while pushing the boundaries. I am convinced that he will succeed in taking the team and the brand to the next level,” said Roeland Vos.
Dan Ruff, the right man for the job
“I’m truly honored to become CEO of this extraordinary company, with its passionate, genuine people and legendary properties. Together, we will continue to strive to deliver incomparable travel experiences to our customers and become the world’s most sought-after luxury travel brand,” added Dan Ruff in turn.
A recognized leader and businessman with 20 years’ experience in the hotel industry, Dan Ruff has led Belmond’s strategic direction with operational, commercial and real estate challenges over the past five years. During the pandemic, he guided his teams and emerged stronger than ever.
Prior to joining the British group, he held senior positions at Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Wyndham Hotel Group in operations, asset management and mergers & acquisitions. He was also a member of the Supervisory Board of Design Hotels AG.
After studying at Cornell University in New York, he began his career at Credit Suisse First Boston, in the Investment Baking division.
The American businessman will report directly to Stéphane Rinderknech, CEO of LVMH Hospitality Excellence. With his extensive experience in the hotel industry and Belmond’s ambitious strategy for 2023, with new openings worldwide, cruises and flourishing new projects, Dan Ruff should be the right man for the job.
