The luxury leather goods manufacturer Arco, a subcontractor of Louis Vuitton, faced the economic crisis related to COVID-19 with its head held high, even announcing 100 new permanent contracts by the end of 2020.

The leather goods manufacturer Arco is following in the footsteps of the giant LVMH and has managed to maintain a good balance sheet despite the economic crisis. The company has even revealed that the outlook for the coming months is better than it was before the pandemic.

Like everyone else, we closed down on March 17. We partially resumed operations on April 6 with about fifty people and teams set up. Our client relaunched us with a crescendo progression until June 19, when we stopped partial unemployment completely and all the staff resumed. The group has a solid backbone, it’s just a year like no other“, explains Pierre Réau, the Châtellerault site manager.

The Arco group owes this rapid recovery in activity to China, Louis Vuitton’s first customer: “Sales have picked up again because China has freed itself from the health crisis […] There has been a real transfer of the point of sale“, comments Pierre Réau.

According to management, the Châtellerault site, which has only been open since the summer of 2019, returned to its pre-pandemic level in August 2020. As of October 1, the plant was even able to afford to hire 53 temporary workers on permanent contracts, for a total of 800 employees on the site. “We’ll finally have an almost normal year with 100 new permanent contracts by the end of 2020“, adds Pierre Réau.

8,000 bags are made every week in the Châtellerault workshops. A rate that is not about to slow down. Pierre Réau is confident: “Made in France fits in the world of luxury. There is a real recognition. And the durability of this activity is that it cannot be relocated !”
