The famous Italian manufacturer has managed to cope with the pandemic by posting a drop in sales of only 9% compared to the previous year. The company delivered a total of 7,430 cars worldwide in 2020.
This slight decrease is inevitably linked to the 70-day production stoppage in the spring imposed by the Italian government and to protect the health of workers during the first wave of the virus.
In contrast, Lamborghini achieved record sales in the second half of 2020, resulting in the “best second half of the year for deliveries to customers” in the company’s history.
In terms of markets, the United States represented Lamborghini’s largest market with 2,224 cars sold, followed by Germany (607), mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau (604), Japan (600), the United Kingdom (517) and Italy (347). South Korea also experienced growth of 75% with 303 units sold, while deliveries to Germany increased by 8% to 607 units in 2020.
In terms of models, le SUV Urus was the best-selling model with 4,391 units, followed by 2,193 for the V10 Huracán and 846 for the V12 Aventador.
Moreover, the brand did not forget to massively expand its model portfolio by launching 6 new products during the past year : Lamborghini Huracán EVO RWD coupé and Spyder, Sián Roadster, Essenza SCV12, Huracán STO and SC20.
“The 2020 results clearly demonstrate the excellent work that, despite the difficulties of a year of global challenges, has been carried out by the entire Lamborghini team with enormous dedication and a spirit of resilience,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini.
Like any sector, the automobile sector has been considerably weakened by the health crisis and its restrictions at the beginning of 2020. Several production plants have been closed for months, annual sales have been down for many manufacturers and dealers around the world.
On the other hand, the luxury car industry did not seem to be as affected as its colleagues and posted numerous records for several manufacturers. Bentley even celebrated the best sales year in its history in 2020, BMW climbed to the top of the podium on the American market, Porshe only experienced a 3% drop in sales in 2020, Ferrari was also asymptomatic to the pandemic…
After finishing gloriously in 2020, Lamborghini is likely to continue in the same vein in 2021 as more than half of the production planned for 2021 has already been allocated.
