For the first month of this year 2021, Bentley produced the 80,000th Continental GT. For the occasion, the car manufacturer has decided to celebrate this “anniversary model” by bringing together some iconic versions that have marked its evolution since 2003.

Bentley delivers an average of nearly 5,000 Continental GTs worldwide each year.

The new model unveils unprecedented aesthetics with the pinnacle of Bentley’s design and engineering achievements: a Continental GT V8 in Orange Flame version, finished with Blackline specifications and with optional styling specifications.

This was designed by hand by the brand’s ‘craftsmen’ in the Crewe factory in the UK. It should be noted that most of them were already present when the Continental GT debuted in 2003.

This time, the production platform has been upgraded especially for this third generation. It now has a completely new dynamic position, proportions and capacity levels. For example, the latest version benefits from a completely new body, with cleaner lines and smoother surfaces. While retaining its role as a resolutely contemporary grand touring car.

Since the production of the first model, it is not only the design and exterior of the car that has changed considerably, peak power has increased by up to 27% and the models in the range have achieved a 48% reduction in CO2 emissions.

“When it was launched in 2003, Bentley redefined modern grand touring with the revolutionary Continental GT. Now in 2021, the GT continues to be the ultimate luxury grand touring car, incorporating the latest technology, performance and style. This success is a testament to the skills of our designers, engineers and craftsmen here in Crewe. I had the pleasure of launching the original GT in 2003 on my first visit to Bentley, and being here for the launch of the latest generation – and the iterations that followed – has been a source of great pride for me personally. It will remain the iconic backbone of the Bentley business for years to come as we move to become the world’s leading provider of sustainable luxury mobility. “said Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark.

To mark the event, the manufacturer has decided to illustrate the evolution of the model by gathering in front of its premises several iconic examples of its range, the most striking versions since 2003, for a beautiful family photo. These include the very first Continental GT in series production, of course, VIN 0001, which is still running; a Continental Supersports coupé, considered by many to be the best of the first-generation GT range; a second-generation Continental GT V8 S coupé, finished in Jetstream; and a Continental GT convertible in Dragon Red.

Also, as a reminder of the brand’s success in sport, it has added the most successful models in this field: the first GT Ice Speed Record, driven by four-time World Rally Champion Juha Kankkunen, who broke the world ice speed record in 2007. But also the first-generation Continental GT3, which has won on-track victories in 2014 and on tracks around the world; the 2019 GT Pikes Peak, which still holds the record for the production car category at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb; and the 2020 GT Ice Race, which took part in the GP Ice Race at Zell Am See in February 2020.

Bentley is once again announcing the colour of 2021, having achieved its highest sales score in 2020, thanks to the launch of many new models.
