Lagardère Group’s Travel Retail division recently announced the opening of eight luxury fashion and beauty boutiques in two of China’s largest airports following the resumption of air traffic in the country.
Lagardère Travel Retail has been present in the Chinese market since 2007 and now has more than 400 stores in 26 airports. The French group is recognized for its dynamism throughout the world, particularly through the development of numerous points of sale via its Travel Retail division, which now has nearly 4,800 stores in Travel Essentials, Duty Free & Fashion and Foodservice in airports and train stations.
In the near future, China will soon open brand new Lagardère Travel Retail luxury retail outlets at its two major airports, Shanghai Hongqiao and Shenzhen, to the delight of travelers who enjoy their shopping experience before boarding their plane.
More specifically, the first six luxury outlets will be available at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. To begin with, Chanel Beauty and Accessories will be the first store of this brand within the Chinese airport market, comprising an 80m² sales area and a wide range of cosmetics, perfumes and accessories. A Parfums Christian Dior boutique, offering a wide range of perfumes and cosmetics on 81 m². Givenchy, a new concept of 66 m² of cosmetics and perfumes, also the first in an airport in China. Shiseido, a 67 m² perfumes and cosmetics boutique, Gucci Watches & Jewelry, offering a large selection of jewelry and watches on 58 m², and finally a Sandro store, offering the brand’s products on 93 m², the very first store of the brand in a Chinese airport.
The airport of Shenzhen will propose to its travelers as for him two stores of brands partners of the group: a Cartier point of sale of 150 m² specialized in the high jewelry, watches and accessories as well as a Burberry Fashion store of 134 m².
With solid ambitions and innovative marketing strategies, the group is offering these partner brands and the various markets via travel retail to achieve their sales objectives in strategic locations, particularly in the Chinese airport market, where many of these brands have never before established themselves, even though China is ranked number one in the consumption of luxury products.
Eudes Fabre, CEO for North Asia at Lagardère Travel Retail, commented: “China is an incredibly resilient market, it was breathtaking to see how quickly domestic traffic has returned to pre-crisis levels and how eager Chinese shoppers have been to return to our stores. The growth of the country’s middle class and its appetite for luxury brands has led to a strong rebound in our business here. I am delighted that we are able to leverage our market leadership position and in-depth knowledge of the local travel retail market to partner with some of the world’s leading luxury brands to support their development in what remains an uncertain environment“.
