Under the patronage of Olivier Saillard, the traveling exhibition “Le Théâtre des Accessoires d’Au-Delà du Cuir” showcases 45 of the brands supported by the leather industry incubator in its ten years of existence. The exhibition will run until May 7 in the heart of the chic department store La Samaritaine (Lvmh).
For its tenth anniversary, the incubator of the French leather industry-Delà du Cuir (ADC) is offering a showcase of choice.
The incubator of emerging French leather industry companies is benefiting from the sumptuous setting of the Samaritaine for its exhibition “Le Théâtre des Accessoires d’Au-Delà du Cuir.” Starting on April 7 and held until May 7 in the heart of the department store, it highlights a selection of 45 ADC award-winning accessory brands, where leather, as you can imagine, predominates.
As the icing on the cake, ADC has placed the scenography of this decade of support under the patronage of Olivier Saillard. With a double legitimacy: director of the Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris from 2010 to 2018, the fashion historian now has his two feet firmly planted in the leather sector as artistic director of image and culture of J.M. Weston since 2018.
Sobriety chic
For this event, he chose the card of chic sobriety.
Respecting a unity of “tones,” with a camaieu going from “pure white to deep black” through “slate or iron grey,” the presentations, realized on trestle tables or white easels, reach an elegant “quiet luxury” result.

“In agreeing to sponsor the ten-year anniversary of the ADC Laureate program, I suggested to each of the participants that they create one of their favorite creations according to a precise and unifying theme,” explained Olivier Saillard in a note of intent. Like a black and white photograph, I wanted these designers to reveal themselves with timelessness. Also in the leathers “ink” or “chalk,” (…/…), their accessories are imposed and exposed in the unity of speech. Whether men’s shoes, elegant women’s shoes, luggage, or leather goods, each poses for a moment in the sophisticated setting of the Samaritaine. Two-tone or monochrome are the manifestos and portraits of those who imagined and dreamed them.”
The leather industry well represented
The whole is intended to represent all the work done around leather, “from tanning to cutting to the finished product, desirable and sustainable.”
Among the names featured, we can see the leather goods Made in France by Valet de Pique, echoes of the old trades (with the Edmond briefcase and the Emile satchel reminiscent of the PTT bags used by letter carriers in the 1960s) or those feminine and arty, by Louvreuse.
In a very different spirit, the O.T.A (On The Asphalt) sneakers show the skillful use of various upcycled materials: leather scraps from a garden glove factory, recycled rubber, cotton, plastic, used tires or, for the time of a capsule collection, fish skins from a Lyon Sushi restaurant transformed by the French tannery Ictyos…
Still rub shoulders, including Souliers Martinez , Destrée or Michino bags, Chamberlan shoes or the Botte Gardiane …

And while circular fashion is more relevant than ever, Adapta, the platform for sourcing leather from dormant stocks founded in 2018 by Virginie Ducatillon, is also represented. Its credo? To provide designers who would never have been able to afford it with “high-quality skins with no minimum order 30 to 70% below market prices”.
Itinerant
The exhibition will be presented in October 2023 in Paris at the Salon de l’accessoire Première Classe in the Tuileries Gardens.
Initiated by the Conseil national du cuir (CNC) and the Fédération française de la chaussure (FFC), the ADC incubator is financed by the assigned tax collected by CTC (Centre technique du cuir).
Since its inception, ADC has supported 92 brands of leather accessories, from shoes to bags, belts, and gloves. 76 of them have managed to survive in the highly competitive fashion landscape.
