South Korean cosmetics company AmorePacific has announced that it has partnered with fellow South Korean KakaoTalk to sell its products via the mobile messaging app.
A business planning agreement has just been signed to sell cosmetics from the giant AmorePacific on the mobile messaging service KakaoTalk, executives of the two South Korean companies announced Monday.
The two companies agreed to cooperate in creating business opportunities and conducting advanced, data-driven marketing activities.
The online services and data assets of the messaging application should create synergy to attract new customers to AmorePacific.
Several joint projects will be realized through the advertising sections of the messaging application as well as other branches of the Kakao group such as KakaoTalk Gift (an online service that allows giving gifts via messaging) and KakaoTalk Shopping Live.
The collaboration is expected to help the cosmetics group strengthen its digital business capabilities, including consolidating marketing activities as well as developing multi-channel services.
“The collaboration with Kakao, which provides various services on its platform, will be of great help to AmorePacific as it aims to expand its business in the lifestyle and cosmetics sectors using digital technology,” said Kim Seung-hwan, CEO of AmorePacific.
“We will work closely together to create results in various fields and create an exemplary case for Kakao and AmorePacific to pursue mutual growth,” Kakao CEO Hong Eun-taek said for his part.
AmorePacific is not the only company to take its first steps within the South Korean messaging app. In 2020, the famous House of Chanel offered about 20 of its products for sale on Kakao Talk. Last year, the jeweler Fred also joined the platform.
Similar to Wechat and Line, the super app KakaoTalk has seen unprecedented popularity in recent years, recording an 8 million user increase between 2015 and 2021, according to Statista. In the last quarter (published in March 2023) the number of active users in Korea stood at 47.8 million individuals. Used by 93% of smartphone owners in Korea, the application is also very popular in Italy and the Netherlands.
