The 17th edition of the Journées Européennes des Métiers d’Art (European Arts and Crafts Days) will take place from March 27 to April 2, 2023. Many workshops open their doors to the public to discover their talents, their heritage and their traditions.

An unmissable event! The Journées Européennes des Métiers d’Art (JEMA), which take place from March 27 to April 2, are an ideal opportunity to discover French heritage crafts and meet professionals through open houses. They highlight the talents and know-how of French craftsmen.

Everywhere in France and Europe, in the heart of cities and villages, the JEMA are held in workshops and training institutions. They also organize “Rendez-vous d’Exception”, special times for discovering crafts and meeting professionals, in exceptional and emblematic places of the heritage, usually little or not open to the public.

The European event, popular and unifying, is aimed at audiences from all walks of life and all generations: amateurs, aesthetes, collectors, consumers…

Sublimating the everyday

For this 2023 edition, the JEMA has chosen the theme “Sublimate the everyday”, in order to illustrate the importance of crafts in particular in the home and in French society. Indeed, crafts and living heritage are at the heart of our daily lives and habits. And the life and environment of the French are constantly enriched by the work of craftsmen.

In Paris and the Ile-de-France region, nearly 500 free events are organized, while a multitude of workshops are open in the regions. For the 17th edition, there is also an increased presence of fashion, jewelry and accessories workshops, which will delight enthusiasts.

Numerous artisans on hand

For the first time, Cartier is participating in JEMA. The luxury house invites the public to 13 rue de la Paix, the historic address of the House, which recently reopened its doors after two years of renovation. On Tuesday, March 28, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, and Wednesday, March 29, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, a guided tour of the boutique will be offered to discover 37 creations made by art craftsmen. A conversation between the Masters of Art Hervé Obligi, lapidary sculptor and Philippe Nicolas, engraver and sculptor on fine and hard stones, will conclude the meeting. The discussion will focus on their common passion for stones, their inspirations and creative process.

The designer of art embroidery, jewelry and accessories Salon de Reine is opening a pop-up shop in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris from March 27 to April 2. Japanese designer Rié, who has lived in France since 2015, will present her creations in Lunéville crochet, a traditional skill for which French haute couture is renowned. Her refined jewelry and accessories combine rare and precious elements, including vintage rhinestones and beads.

Finally, the Ateliers Baudin offer the opportunity to discover the workshop’s eyewear expertise and to meet the Meilleur Ouvrier de France, Oscar Esteves. From March 28 to April 1, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, visitors will be able to see the craftsman’s hand at work, as well as the machines machining the material. Each custom-made model is designed, sketched, worked and adjusted by hand.
