The first thematic temporary exhibition of the Yves Saint Laurent Paris Museum since its opening in October 2017, “The Asian dream of Yves Saint Laurent” will gather from October 2, 2018 to January 27, 2019, about fifty haute couture models inspired by India, from China and Japan.

These pieces from the museum’s collection will be presented in dialogue with Asian art objects lent by the National Museum of Asian Arts – Guimet and by private collectors.
Thanks to his “imaginary journeys” or “immobile”, Yves Saint Laurent delivered, throughout his collections, a dream vision of far-off lands, tinged with knowledge drawn from both his readings and a direct approach to objects of art. The couturier immersed himself in the heart of local customs, explored the folklore, diverted clichés to offer a sublime representation of clothing traditions.
“Asia has long had a fascination with European artists. In his collections, Yves Saint Laurent delivers a very personal vision based on a thorough knowledge of his history, culture and arts. “, said Aurélie Samuel, curator of the heritage, director of the collections of the Museum Yves Saint Laurent Paris and curator of the exhibition.
Each year, the Yves Saint Laurent Paris Museum’s programming is punctuated by a temporary thematic exhibition from October to January, then by a return to a retrospective tour from February to September.
