Created especially for the 90th anniversary of its legendary model, the Reverso, Jaeger-LeCoultre is offering an immersive and cultural experience from 21 October to 24 December 2021.
The Reverso model was born in 1930 in India on the polo fields, with the idea of a case that could turn over.
Revolutionary, this model was quickly adopted by trend setters around the world. Combining adaptability with Art Deco lines, it has become one of the most recognisable watches in the world.
As a tribute to this iconic timepiece, Jaeger-LeCoultre has devised “Reverso: Timeless since 1931”, an original concept to be explored through a temporary boutique offering a fascinating retrospective, an Art Deco café and a discovery workshop.
The exhibition begins with “History of an icon” , which goes back to the origins of the Reverso, designed and manufactured in the Vallée de Joux, at an altitude of over 1,000 metres. Archival documents are on display to the public for the first time on this occasion.
The chapter “History of a Style & Design” looks at the watch from an aesthetic point of view. Inspired by Art Deco, its rectangular shape imposed by the reversal of its case is accompanied by extremely sober lines.
Created for the event, the Spacetime anamorphosis (designed by the American artist Michael Murphy) allows visitors to plunge through the three physical dimensions of space and the fourth dimension of time.
“History of an Innovation” recalls the origin of the Reverso, an idea that took shape in the hands of the French engineer René-Alfred Chauvot and required no less than 17 sketches when the first patent application was filed on 4 March 1931.
Finally, “History of the craft” pays special tribute to the various trades of the Manufacture. These craftsmen passionately perpetuate ancestral techniques and give the Reverso its unique and multiple identity.
The venue will be completed by the 1931 Café, a typically Art Deco venue in black and white recalling the spirit of the 1930s and imbued with the Art Deco lines of the Reverso.
An exhibition to be found from 21 October to 24 December 2021 at 15 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris 8. Reservations available here.
