This program aims to partner with artists and artisans from various disciplines outside the watchmaking world. It highlights creators who share Jaeger-Lecoultre‘s values of creativity, expertise and excellence, and whose work explores new forms of expression through different materials and media.

The Made of Makers community continues to grow. It has notably touched the art world through associations with artists such as Zimoun, Michael Murphy and Guillaume Marmin, or the typographer Alex Trochut, but also the gourmet world of gastronomy with Nina Métayer and the mixologist Matthias Giroud.

Symbiosis between gastronomy and watchmaking

The collaboration between the watchmaker and the young French chef began in 2021 with the inauguration of the 1931 Café, created for the 90th anniversary of the brand’s famous Reverso model. For the occasion, Nina had designed a remarkable pastry menu, inspired by Art Deco, in reference to the history of the timepiece. And Jaeger-Lecoultre did not choose her at random.

Awarded pastry chef of the year three times in a row before the age of 30, this young entrepreneurial and talented chef is renowned for the beauty and exquisite taste of her work as well as her unique talent for blending flavors. From France to the world, from pastries to Michelin-starred dishes, this young woman has almost nothing left to prove.

We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Nina Métayer as part of our Made of Makers program,” says Catherine Rénier, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre. “There is an organic connection between the art world and our House around the exploration of creativity and respect for craftsmanship. Working with a passionate and experienced artisan like Nina allows us to express the values of our House in a new way that evokes emotions, cultivates curiosity and explores the symbiotic relationship that exists between watchmaking and art.

This new range of pastries was first offered to the brand’s guests at the Watches and Wonders exhibition, which took place from March 27 to April 2 in Geneva. It is also on display at the 1931 Café around the world until the end of the year.

These gourmet creations refer to the Golden Ratio or Golden Number, the formula that governs the design of the brand’s famous Reverso model. Nina Métayer gives a fresh and contemporary vision to an old model, through proportions, shape, symmetry and color. Because pastry is an art.

The evocative names bring a touch of uniqueness to the captivating shapes of these desserts: Spirale de Noisette, Ellipse de Sapin, Étoile de Cassis and Carré au Miel de Forêt. Without even seeing them, you already want to bite into them.

These flavors and ingredients, such as honey, pine, hazelnut and black currant, evoke the Swiss Jura mountains that surround the House of Jaeger-Lecoultre.

“Harmony in everything is, and always has been, a mixture of mathematics and poetry. It is a balance that nature has long kept secret and a deep conviction that Jaeger-LeCoultre and I share and apply to our work. With this in mind, I created my four new pastries that pay homage to the golden ratio,” Nina explains. “The creative mind also understands that aesthetics have an impact on how we feel. Thus, the visual shapes of my pastries influence the perception of flavor: they lock in the promise of releasing poetry from the first bite“.

Discover, or rather enjoy without further delay, these creations as beautiful as they are good at 1931 café, across the globe.
