After record results in 2021, the French specialist in licensed perfumes (Coach, Jimmy Choo, Lanvin, Moncler, St Dupont…) or in its own name (such as Rochas) has achieved a very dynamic first quarter.

At the time of the publication of the annual results, last March, the creator and distributor of perfumes nevertheless invoked the war in Ukraine, the persistence of tensions on the supply chain, the uncertainties related to the sanitary crisis and problems of shipment in the United States to be prudent. And to refuse to make any forecasts.

And while analysts were counting on an average turnover of 146 million euros in the first quarter, the perfume designer and distributor finally grew by 22.5% at current exchange rates (+18.1% at constant exchange rates) to 162.4 million euros.

“While the tragic events in Ukraine obviously weighed on business in Eastern Europe, which fell by 9%, growth was particularly strong in all other regions,” the group said.

Interparfums has also been successful in Western Europe, where its sales (+44%) were boosted by the success of Montblanc, Jimmy Choo and Rochas fragrances, as well as in Asia (+29%) and South America (+41%). In North America, despite IT problems with a logistics partner, growth remained “satisfactory”, with sales up 13%.

Sales of the three flagship licences all grew in double figures, with +31% for Montblanc (to 42.5 million euros) and Coach (34.3 million euros) and +15% for Jimmy Choo (34.4 million euros). The prize goes to Van Cleef & Arpels (+72% to 7.3 million euros) and the dunce’s cap to Boucheron (-14% to 4 million euros).

“We had a good quarter, reflecting continued strong demand for our brands in many countries, despite the situation in Ukraine and longer supply times. While we remain cautious due to this context, we remain confident for 2022 with a turnover that should reach 600 million euros for the whole year”, said Philippe Benacin, Co-Founder (in 1982) and Co-Managing Director of the company with Jean Madar.

In 2021, the Interparfums group had achieved sales of 560.8 million euros, a strong rebound after the pandemic, +52.7% compared to 2020 and +15.8% compared to 2019.
