On October 18 and 19, 2021, the Cuir dans la Peau event will be back for its fifth edition. On the program, two open days that will highlight the companies in the leather industry in the historic town of Graulhet.
The Bastides and Vignoble du Gaillac Tourist Office invites you to immerse yourself in the art of working leather in the heart of Graulhet, the French capital of basane, which has been working leather for several centuries. Accompanied by the Conseil National du Cuir, the Cuir dans la Peau proposes to discover these Graulhet companies that attract the biggest names in fashion.
“This will be a unique opportunity for you to understand how leather is transformed, how leather goods are assembled and to discover all the working techniques of this noble sector,” say the organizers in a statement.
Ahead of the event, which will take place from October 18 to 19, 2021, a creative competition is organized. Participants in Do It Yourself and Upcycling are invited to design a decorative object or a piece of jewelry from Graulhet leather. The partner companies Cuir en stock and Eureka will provide leather scraps to the participants in order to promote upcycling and a more responsible fashion.
The contest is subject to voting by Internet users on the social networks of the event, who can elect their favorite piece since September 15. The winners will be designated on October 12, 2021 and will win a VIP stay for the open house in Graulhet.
Among the companies honored at the event, many are doing upcycling like Bandit Manchot, founded by the three designers Marie-Laure Biscond, Marie-Christine Frison and Anne Duquesnoy, and which designs its pieces only from sourced materials. The company La Cartablière follows the same manufacturing model and places upcycling at the heart of its concerns by using its own waste.
Maroquinerie Philippe Serres, founded in 1927, will also be highlighted for its commitment to a more environmentally sensitive industry, such as its Capsule collection using only materials from previous years. We will also find the companies Les Ateliers Fourès, Cuir en Stock, BFM, Eureka, Mégisserie de la Molière, who will present their commitments to ecology and upcycling of leather.
