On 23 and 24 July, the International Fashion Festival took place in Porto Montenegro, an open-air event aimed at highlighting local and international designers under the theme of “green”.

“I believe that sustainable fashion is for everyone,” stressed Oana Cristina Popa, EU ambassador to Montenegro, “We need to support young designers and creators who promote slow and sustainable fashion instead of fast fashion.”

Renowned designer Ronald van der Kemp was part of the event, bringing his autumn 2021 couture collection presented in Paris earlier. His aim: “I really want people to see that green fashion can be extremely glamorous, sexy and attractive.”

As a reminder, Ronald van der Kemp is a Dutch fashion designer and founder of the RVDK Ronald van der Kemp fashion brand, his eponymous brand.

Due to the Covid-19 news, the 2021 International Fashion Festival was held on a smaller scale than previous editions. The backstage area could only accommodate 20 models and the outdoor runway could only accommodate 200 guests.

However, the organiser of the event, the Fabrika event agency, welcomed TV crews to cover the festival and many sponsors such as the Regent luxury hotel, watchmaker Hublot and car brand Renault.

A fashion show by the brand Lisca also took place during the event. Lisca is a Slovenian lingerie and swimwear brand, present in over 60 countries. Two Montenegrin designers Maja Pavićević and Aleksandra Džaković, whose brand Akka uses only biodegradable materials and seamless production techniques.

This event was also placed under the sign of luxury, from the sponsors, but also from the influences of the organisers of the show on Friday and Saturday night. Vesna Mandić, Fabrika’s managing director, had previously organised her own recurring fashion show for more than 20 years, which saw Jean-Paul Gaultier and Christian Dior collections appear on its stages, among others.

Saturday night’s fashion shows were broadcast live and Ronald van der Kemp and Akka’s RVDK collections were also shown in the lively cafes on the waterfront of Tivat, the neighbouring city of Porto Montenegro.
