The presence of the hotel group Accor should soon double in Japan, at a time when hotel openings are multiplying in the country of the rising sun.

In 2022, Japan welcomed nearly 4 million visitors. As travel and tourism resume in destinations such as Japan, Singapore, Vietnam and other Asian countries such as China, the Accor Group sees this as an asset, by strengthening its presence, especially in the country of cherry blossoms.

Indeed, the first hotel group in Europe recently announced the conclusion of a new partnership with the real estate developer JHRA in Japan. This association focuses on the renovation of the Daiwa Resorts portfolio and their conversion into a Grand Mercure and Mercure hotel, part of the Accor group.

This transaction will double the portfolio of the Accor group in this country, adding 23 new addresses, accounting for more than 6 000 rooms.

We are delighted to add these beautiful hotels to our Japanese portfolio. Accor will build on the excellent relationships that Daiwa Resort has built in each region, and we will work closely with our partner Japan Hotel Reit Advisors, in charge of asset management at Daiwa Resort, to renovate these properties“, says Jean-Jacques Morin, Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer and Chief Executive Officer of the Premium, Midrange & Economy, Accor Division. “Our ambitions are fuelled by the recovery in Asia, and so we seek to offer travellers an ever wider and more diverse range of hotel experiences throughout this region“.

With the recovery of tourism and demand, Accor wants to take these brands “to new heights, with a density, a presence and a scale never seen before”.

These new hotels across Japan, from Hokkaido to Okinawa, will provide visitors with unforgettable travel experiences: “Our promise: a comfortable stay, punctuated with activities focusing on gastronomy, tourist attractions and local hot springs, allowing guests to make the most of the specificities of each address,” says Koji Mayanagi, President and CEO of Daiwa Resort Co.

Japan, and much more

In addition to Japan, Accor will open several properties in Asia-Pacific over the next few years, under the name of major hotel brands such as Fairmont, Mondrian or Pullman in various places such as Thailand and Indonesia, Vietnam or the Philippines, which are important markets. Accor has also identified future growth opportunities.

In addition, the French group continues to look for significant assets, including conversion possibilities with existing hotel brands.
