Hermès develops its “Ecole des savoir-faire”

One year after creating the “Ecole des savoir-faire”, dedicated to Leather Goods, the luxury House is developing a new specialisation “cutting and stitching”.

The “École Hermès des savoir-faire” (Hermès apprenticeship training school), which is accredited by the French Ministry of Education, already provides training in leather goods, which is recognised by a French national diploma (CAP Maroquinerie).  It is now extending its scope thanks to the accreditation of the French Federation of Leather Goods to deliver the certificate of professional qualification in cutting and stitching. This new training course will begin in 2023 and will be aimed at 200 students each year, Hermès said in a press release.

As the saddler reminds us, his school is open “to all profiles who wish to become craftsmen and aims to enhance their manual talents”. Hermès also states that once they have obtained their diploma, the trained craftsmen will be able to join, among others, one of the group’s nineteen leather goods factories.

The school currently has more than 450 apprentice craftsmen in various workshops: in Charleville-Mézières (Ardennes), Louviers (Eure) and Marthon (Charente).

Hermès is also constantly expanding its production facilities. The town of Loupes, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, will be the first town outside the Bordeaux metropolitan area to host a Hermès leather goods factory by 2025. “Together with the Guyenne leather goods factory, it will constitute the Gironde centre of Hermès, which will become the group’s eighth leather goods centre,” says the group.
