On September 17 and 18, 16 000 cultural venues opened to the public, including 3 000 exceptionally.

The Heritage Days are an opportunity for citizens to discover or re-discover for free places of French culture, some of which are usually closed to the public.

More than 25,000 events were organized last week in metropolitan France, as well as in the French overseas territories. Guided tours, workshops and other activities took visitors to the most beautiful places in the capital and elsewhere. This edition 2022 was thus placed under the sign of sustainable heritage.

Among the most visited sites in the Paris region were the Château de Fontainebleau, the Mobilier national and the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris.  They all welcomed about 20 000 visitors.

In other regions, the Abbey of Mont Saint-Michel and the Château d’Angers attracted more than 10 000 people, according to the ministry.

Among the highlights, visitors were able to admire the Richelieu site of the Bnf in Paris, which has just opened to the public after twelve years of work.

They were also able to discover the use of sustainable materials, notably for the work undertaken in the cathedral of Beauvais.

Between environmental responsibility and extraordinary cultural visits, these Heritage Days 2022 welcomed many more visitors than the previous year.

The Ministry of Culture announced on Sunday evening that it was very satisfied with this weekend like no other.
